Neal M. Preller ’70

Body

NEAL PRELLER SUCCUMBED to AIDS Sept. 29, 1993, after a 12year battle with the virus. He entered Princeton from Wantagh H.S. on Long Island. Neal was named a University Scholar, majored in English, and was one of the founding members of Stevenson Hall.

Following graduation, he translated Russian medical texts for Plenham Publishing Co., before enrolling in N.Y.U., where he studied computer programming. This led to dataprocessing positions with Merrill Lynch and Salomon Brothers.

For many years, Neal was politically active in the gayrights movement, including founding membership in the Gay Activist Alliance of New York and charter membership on their executive committee. Neal also maintained his active love for the literature of James Joyce and W. E. Yeats and was an avid collector of comic books, decorative glass, and rock and roll records.

The oldest of seven children, he is survived by four brothers, two sisters, and his parents, and his life partner of 17 years, Don Anderson. Princeton holds in honor and affection the name of Neal Preller.
