Nelson B. Dane Jr. ’49

Body

Nelson died of heart failure Dec. 6, 2008, at the age of 81.

He prepared for Princeton at Millburn High School (N.J.) and majored in psychology. Nelson played on the varsity golf team and was financial secretary of Cottage Club. He served in the Navy during World War II as an enlisted man and then served again as an officer during the Korean War.

After Nelson completed his Navy service he worked as a general insurance broker and investor and opened his own company, Dane Realty Corp., in 1966. The business specialized in the acquisition and management of apartment properties. He continued the business until 1984, when he sold it and retired.

Nelson had a lifelong love of dogs and golf. He maintained a home at the Pine Valley Golf Club in New Jersey and belonged to several other golf clubs in Sarasota, Fla. and Westhampton Beach, N.Y.

Nelson is survived by his wife of nine years, Nancy Greeff Sartorius Dane; a daughter, Kate; three sons, Scott, Nelson III, and Grant; a sister, Nancy Wells; and one grandchild. The class extends its sympathy to them on their loss of a man who enjoyed life to the fullest.
