Nicholas Fletcher Palmer III ’27

Body

Nick died on Aug. 1, 1989, in his 84th year, in West Palm Beach, Fla. After preparing at St. Mark's School and enjoying life at Princeton and in Cloister Club, he went into publishing, a field that occupied his entire working life (except for service at a munitions plant in Buffalo, N.Y., during WWII). For many years, he worked in the office of the Education Assn. in N.Y.C. He was one of the three managers who supervised the commercial distribu¬tion of the Volume Library, which celebrated its 50th anniversary during his tenure. Outside his business hours, Nick enjoyed tennis, skiing, swimming, reading, and—until later years—walking. Nick retired in about 1975 and shared in the care of his mother, who died at the age of 100 in 1980. He then retired to West Palm Beach.

Although his marriage (in 1933) to Rosemary Dalglish (now deceased) ended in divorce and without children, Nick was surrounded by a large family. It included three Princetonian brothers: Francis Morgan Palmer '29 (who contributed to this memorial), Thomas P. F. Palmer '32, and George Q. Palmer '43. Other Princetonians in his extended family included uncle Ludlow S. Fowler '17, Ludlow Jr. '62, and cousins Albert T. Maurice '36 and Thomas P. F. Maurice '39. To all Nick's relatives we send our sympathy.
