FRED DAVIS died Nov. 21, 1991, in New York, after a threeyear illness. He is survived by his father, Clay; his mother, Norma; his sister, Donna Lee; and his brother, Clay Jr. '66,

Fred was born and raised in Pensacola, Fla. At Princeton, he was in NROTC, majored in aerospace and mechanical sciences, and was a member of the hand and Quadrangle Club. He performed in Triangle Club, Theatre Intime, and McCarter Repertory Theater productions.

After five years in the Navy, Fred earned an M.F.A. in acting from the Asolo State Theater of Florida State Univ. He headed immediately for New York to pursue a professional acting career under the stage name of Clayton Davis. Fred appeared in numerous offBroadway and regional theater productions and on cruise ships to the Caribbean, Alaska, Hawaii, the Mediterranean, the Black Sea, and Tahiti.

After his death, his showbusiness friends staged a small production in his honor at Lincoln Center that was billed as "a celebration of the life on earth of a person who showed us the richness of our own lives with his smile, wit, and determination, no matter what." He will he greatly missed.
