Norman L. Peck ’57

Norm died April 16, 2016, after a battle with melanoma.
At Princeton he majored in economics, joined Campus Club, and was active in Speakers Bureau, Debate Panel, and Triangle Club. His senior-year roommates were Hoeltzel, Camfield, Neville, Tirana, and Kennedy.
A lifelong New Yorker, his career centered on real estate and the philanthropic world. After Army service, Norm joined Douglas Elliman real-estate company, subsequently purchasing it with Peter Sharp ’52. Later, he bought the Carlyle Hotel while managing Schroeder Real Estate, a U.K. firm.
Upon Sharp’s death, Norm established the Peter J. Sharp Foundation. As its president, he built the endowment to $400 million and then gave it away over the years, winding it down a couple of years ago. The arts were the chief beneficiary of this largesse.
Norm is survived by his wife, Liliane; son Ian; daughter Dominique; and three grandchildren. The class sends its sincere condolences. We will miss this dedicated man and witty raconteur.
