Norman Leinbach Gill ’39

Body

NORM DIED Apr. 13, 1993 in Trenton, his home for 35 years.

He had retired as executive V.P., general counsel, and a member of the board of directors of New Jersey Manufacturers Insurance Co. in 1988, after over 30 years with the company.

Norm attended Harvard Law until his studies were interrupted by WWII navy service as a lieutenant in the South Pacific. He then continued his law studies at Rutgers, receiving his LL.B. in 1947. He began his career at McCarter and English in Newark, and later became chief of the legal department of the New Jersey Turnpike Authority.

In 1946, he and Muriel Craig were married. We extend our sincere sympathy to Muriel; to their three daughters, Carolyn Friedlander, Ellen Miller, and Goldsmith; and to his sister Mary Ellen Cassman. Mary Ellen gave a warm tribute to Norm at his funeral, recalling his love of music, his great interest in flowers, and his gift for writing poetry. Two of his daughters read brief poems of his that they particularly remembered.

To their happy memories of Norm we add our own and bid farewell to our old friend.
