Norman R. Nelsen ’58

Norm died July 3, 2015, in Bridgewater, N.J. He had been living in the Bridgeway Senior Healthcare Center for about a year.
Norm came to us from Curtis High School in Staten Island, N.Y. At Princeton, he was a member of the Whig-Cliosophic Society and the Whig-Clio Senate. Norm was in the Woodrow Wilson School and a member of Dial Lodge. He graduated with election to Phi Beta Kappa and roomed with Phil Stadter during his senior year.
After college he served as a gunnery officer on the USS Yorktown and, as a recipient of a Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship, studied international politics at Yale.
From 1961 to 1972, Norm was employed by Metal Traders Inc. in New York. His 30-year career in international marketing and management in the metal industry took him to 35 states and 30 countries.
A member of the International Society of Poets, Norm published two books of poetry, A Year Here in Basking Ridge and Basking Ridge … and Beyond. Norm was a coin and stamp collector and had a large library on World War II leaders, U.S. presidents, sports figures, movie stars, impressionist art, and lighthouses.
He is survived by his daughter, Katherine Nelsen, to whom the class extends its deepest sympathy.
