O. Edward Freeman Jr. ’49

ED FREEMAN, retired V.P. and trust officer of the Chase Manhattan Bank, died Oct. 14, 1993, at Mt. Sinai Hospital in N.Y.C., following a heart attack. Ed was born Sept. 16, 1924, and attended Virginia H.S. in Bristol, Va. He served as a staff sergeant in the army air force from Apr. 1943Feb. 1946, and transferred to Princeton from the Univ. of Tennessee in Sept. 1946. At Princeton, he majored in economics and belonged to Quadrangle Club.

Following graduation, Ed attended Worcester College, Oxford; toured the Continent; worked briefly for Lord & Taylor; spent a year exploring ancient ruins in Central and South America; and then went to work for Chase Manhattan Bank, where he spent his career. He made the old Princeton Club of N.Y.C. his home until the building was sold, then moved across Park Ave. A lifelong antique collector, he acquired pieces at auction for his home; the family home in Bristol, Va., which he maintained; and for Shakertown museum.

Ed was a trustee of Shakertown in South Union, Ky.; and belonged to the Society of Colonial Wars, the Sons of the Revolution, the University Club, the Princeton Club of N.Y.C., the Natl. Trust, and the English Speaking Union. He was also an Honorary Kentucky Colonel.

Ed's survivors include an aunt, Marcia Hall, and at least 10 cousins. We extend our profound sympathies to them all.
