Oliver Allen Vietor ’41
THE CLASS LOST one who had done much for it when Oli Vietor died Jan. 13, 1993, at his home in Dorset, Vt. Born and raised in New York, he prepared for Princeton at St. Paul's School, Concord, N.H. At both he excelled academically, athletically, and extracurricularly, graduating with honors from both and participating in crew, hockey, and squash. During senior year, he served as president of Colonial Club and on the InterClub Committee. From 1955 to 1963, he was president of the Classa job lie described as "one of my greatest satisfactions." And in '51 and'66 he chaired our 10th and 25th year book committees, both formidable tasks. He married Dorothy Krueger Burghard in 1941.
During the war, Oli served in the U.S. Army as a counterintelligence officer in the 83rd Infantry Division. He was awarded the Bronze Star with a citation describing the "inestimable value" of his help "in organizing and administering captured areas of Germany."
Oli spent most of his business career in book publishing, first with Van Nostrand (later Litton) and then with Ted Black '41. After moving to Vermont, he and Dotty operated a hardware store in Dorset for several years.
To Dotty, their daughters Anita and Dorothy Parsons, his brother Thomas, and his four grandchildren, we extend our deep and heartfelt sympathy. We appreciate what 01i did for the Class.
