In his bio for the 25th-reunion yearbook, Orv describes himself as a Small Town Lawyer. If you interpret this as a pejorative, forget it. We should all have such a life. Orv’s father was Princeton 1928 and wanted him to follow. Orv was not likely to make it from Nyack Senior High School. In a quick move he was enrolled at Andover. He entered Princeton with more than 20 others from Andover.

Orv was a varsity swimmer, a good athlete, and good enough at billiards and bridge to anchor the club teams at Cannon. After freshman year, he and Jan Brechnitz joined with Bart Reitz, and these three roomed together for their final years. Orv majored in psychology, useful to all lawyers, and this was where he was headed. University of Virginia Law School admitted him, and he graduated in 1960 with an LL.B. Everything began filling in now. After his active duty in the Army, Orv joined his father’s law firm in Nyack.

In 1962, a most important piece of his life: Orv met and married Sally Ann Roe of Bellport, N.Y. They would move to Nyack. They were blessed with three boys, Orville III, Marcus, and Garrett; and 10 grandchildren.

Orv was named village attorney for Nyack and assistant district attorney for Rockland County.

He died Nov. 17, 2024. We and his family will miss him.
