Osborne Halsted ’26

Body

OZ HALSTED, one of the few farmers in the Class, died on Feb. 28, 1990, at the age of 87, after a brief illness. Following graduation, Oz was in banking in N.Y.C. In 1942, he and Katharine, the former Miss Patterson, whom Oz had married in 1931, left Plainfield, N.J., for Vermont. As preparation Oz had taken courses in agriculture at Rutgers, and soon after the move to their farm near Pawlet, Oz was in possession of a herd of registered Holsteins, which he managed until 1958, when they moved to Dorset. Among Oz's many interests, his family, friends, farm, and Princeton were paramount. His daughter, Peggy Tenney, wrote that she will always remember Oz on his John Deere tractor, wearing his Princeton '26 hat. Oz also enjoyed fishing and photography, and had an increasing interest in the environment.

Oz will be remembered for his unfailing good humor, that twinkle of the eye, his steadfast friendships, and his loyalty to the Class. We extend our deep sympathy to Katharine and their children, E. Bayard '58, Margaret Tenney, and David C., and to six grandchildren.
