Paul Leclair Brand II ’32

Body

PAUL BRAND died of lung ailments on Jan. 9, 1993, at Fairfax Nursing Center in Fairfax, Va. He had suffered a broken hip the previous November at his residence in Reston.

After leaving college, Paul moved to the Washington area and shortly thereafter went to work for the Hecht department store. A year later, he accepted an administrative position with the National Park Service, and for three years he helped to develop the expansion of state parks throughout the country. In 1937, Paul joined his father in his audiovisual equipment business, and with the exception of military service during WWII, he stayed with the family business until retirement in 1989, having controlled it since his father's death in 1951. He served a twoyear term as a director of the National AudioVisual Assn.

As a Reserve officer, Paul was called to active service with the 313th Field Artillery, and after further duties as an instructor and staff officer, lie saw action in the European Theatre, followed by several months of occupation duty in Bavaria. He retired front the Reserves around 1960 as a lieutenant colonel.

Among his civic activities, Paul was a member of the Better Sports Club, an organization supporting youth sports activities. His wife of 47 years, Evelyn M., died in 1986.

The Class extends its deep sympathy to Paul's two children, Susan B. Moutous, and Patti L. 111; his half sister, Jeanne Brand Billings; and Five grandsons.
