Peter Bentley ’38

Peter was born in Jersey City, N.J., and lived in Red Bank, N.J., at the time he entered Princeton. He prepared at Phillips Exeter Academy, where he played football and hockey. At Princeton he majored in English and graduated with honors. He was on the freshman football team, active in club athletics, and joined Cannon Club.

Peter graduated from Yale Law School and joined the firm of Simpson, Thatcher & Bartlett in New York City. Later he moved his practice to Stamford, Conn., where he joined with Walter Maguire, later forming the firm of Bentley, Mosher & Babson.

While living in Connecticut, Peter was active in the Stamford Greenwich Friends Meeting and avidly pursued his hobby of sailing. He served as chairman of the board of the Herzog Foundation, a charitable organization, until 2006. He and his second wife, Jane, moved to Riverwoods Retirement Community at Exeter, N.H., in 1995.

Peter is survived by Jane; his daughter, Frederique Boire; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren, to all of whom the class extends condolences.
