Peter Callanan Battin ’52
FOLLOWING A BRIEF ILLNESS, Peter Battin died of cancer July 15, 1993, at his home in Macon, G, where he had lived for 20 years.
Born in Albany, N.Y., Peter came to Princeton from the Albany Academy on a N,R.O.T.C. scholarship. He majored in political science and was member of Cannon. He enjoyed playing on the 150 lb. football team and serving as coeditor of the TIGER TRIUMPH.
Peter came from a family of Princetonians, including his father Harry E. '24, brother Harry B '62, uncle William C. '30, and cousins J. Reid Callana '23 and Charles R. Callanan '47. Peter was loyal to Princeton, and took his family to several reunions.
After graduation, Peter served in the navy for three years. His First work was with First Boston Corp. in NYC, followed by a position at Callanan Road Improvement Co., a family firm. Later, Peter moved to Atlanta, where he founded the Atlanta College of Medical and Dental Assistants. Before retiring he served as V.P. of development at Charter Medical Corp. in Macon. Entertaining at the piano was of his favorite pastimes.
In the community, he was a founder and first president of Macon Heritage Foundation, formed to preserve Macon's historic architecture. He also served OD the board of the local Red Cross chapter.
Peter married Maryel Ramsay in 1965. He is survived by Maryel and their children, Maia '90 an Ramsay '93. Peter will be dearly missed by his family; to them we extend our deepest sympathy.
