Peter E. Thauer ’61

Pete died March 24, 2011, at his winter home in Vero Beach, Fla.

Born in New York City, he was a resident of Saddle River, N.J. He was the only child of Ernest Moritz Thauer, president of FAO Schwartz, and Rose Adele Thauer, a homemaker. Peter came to Princeton from Blair Academy. At Princeton he majored in politics, was a member of the Pre-Law Society and Orange Key, took his meals at Key and Seal, and roomed with Bob Haines, Larry Larkin, and Dave Peterson.

Following the University of Chicago Law School, Pete served as assistant general counsel of Avon Products and most recently as senior vice president for law and environment and general counsel for Cambrex Corp. in New Jersey.

Pete enjoyed golf and was a member of Arcola Country Club and John’s Island Club. He was an avid amateur photographer and loved to read, travel, and spend time with family and friends.

Pete’s wife, Nancy, predeceased him in September 2010. He is survived by his children, Peter and Susan, and their families, including three grandchildren.
