Peter MacNaughton Miller ’34

PETER "PEDRO" MILLER died Dec. 17, 1993, while flying with his wife Elsa from Brazil, where he taught school, to spend Christmas with his daughter and her family in Wellesley, Mass.

Pedro was in his 14th year of teaching in Brazil, at the American School in Campinas. His career in education began at Princeton, where, after a couple of years in a N.Y.C. bank, he earned his Ph.D. in English in 1939, and started to teach. After five years, army service, he returned to Princeton as an assistant professor. He was at the Educational Testing Service for six years, then at Caltech, where he became director of admission and financial aid.

His first wife, Martha, died in 1978. The next year, he went to Brazil. In 1991, he married Elsa van der Laaken, also a teacher in Campinas. Surviving besides her are his daughter, Mary Schaefer; two sons, P. MacNaughton III and Sanford C.; and six grandchildren. To them, we offer our sympathy.
