Philip F. Mygatt ’34

Body

PHIL MYGATT DIED July 2, 1994, in Colorado. He was a retired v.p. and manager of creative services at J. Walter Thompson Co., a N.Y.C. ad agency. Since his retirement in 1971, after 37 years with the company, Phil had lived in Washington, Conn., where he was a past president of the Art Assn.

He joined J. Walter Thompson in 1934 as a cub radio-commercial writer. After assignments in Hollywood, Sydney, and Toronto, he became a v.p. in 1955. A tribute to him on the day he left the office likened him to a father figure: "Age has nothing to do with it-he's not old enough. But he is wise enough and concerned enough, and, clearly, willing enough to be a presence in our lives that is most father-like and most comforting."

Phil’s wife, Marjorie "Peggy'' MacDonald (Smith '33), whom he married in 1937, died in 1960. Sons E. W. '61, Bruce M., and Robert M. and seven grandchildren survive. To them, we offer our sympathies.
