Philip G. Connell Jr. ’43

Body

PHIL DIED Oct. 9, 1991, at his home in Village of Golf, Fla. He was 71 and had fought a most valiant bout against cancer for almost a year.

Born in Chicago, Phil was the greatgrandson of William Maxwell Wood, the first surgeon general of the U.S. Navy. He graduated from the Hun School and majored in chemical engineering at Princeton. Phil served aboard a destroyer in the Pacific during WWII.

Phil's working career spanned 34 years, from 1946 to 1980, all with one company, American Cyanimid. He was president of several Cyanimid divisions, including pigments, fibers, and agricultural.

An avid golfer and all around sportsman, Phil moved to the village of Golf in 1980, upon his retirement. He was also a summer resident of Nantucket for 65 years.

He is survived by his widow, Elizabeth; four sons, Philip G. 111 '71, John, Richard, and Robert; a daughter, Laurie Kerschner; and seven grandchildren.

Phil's father, Phillip G, Connell '03, and our late classmate were both members of Tiger Inn. When Philip G. III graduated, it meant that all three Philip G. Connells were Tigers, and devoted Tigers at that.

To the entire family, we offer our most heartfelt condolences.
