Philip H. Strubing II ’29

Body

PHIL DIED Jan. 2, 1994, in Memphis, where he had lived for some years after his Philadelphia law career. He prepared for college at Pomfret and Lawrenceville. His great athletic career at Princeton included football, hockey, and baseball. He belonged to Cottage Club and his roommates were Newt Noble, C. T. Fuller, Johnny Stinson, and Stu Janney.

Phil went to Columbia Law School and eventually became chair of the Philadelphia firm of Pepper, Hamilton & Scheetz. During the war, he served as a lieutenant in the navy, stationed in the legal department.

Phil's athletic career continued after Princeton: he was president of the U.S. Golf Assn., the Philadelphia Cricket Club, and the Sunnybrook Golf Club. Among his other golf memberships was the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews. He married Elizabeth Hanes in 1934, and she survives, together with their children Leigh Josey, Stephanie Flinn, and Philip H. 111. The class extends sincere sympathy to Phil's family.
