PHILIP DIED Apr. 9, 1991, of prostate cancer, at his brother's home in Pennington, NJ. He was 63 Phil joined the Class after a year with the Air Force, majored in S.P.I.A., and dedicated many hours to Theater Intime, a preview of his lifetime avocation. After studying at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London, he became coowner of the Sheridan Square Playhouse in New York, where he produced and directed plays. The works of Shakespeare, Shaw, and Eugene O'Neill were his speciality. Phil also acted and directed at the University Players in Princeton; Trinity Repertory Company in Providence, R.I.; the Pittsburgh Public Theater; the Academy Festival Theater in Lake Forest, Ill.; the Tyrone Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis; and in a number of others across the country. in addition to plays, he staged operas for the San Francisco Opera Company and the Waverly Consort. He also taught and directed at Bennington College.

Phil is survived by his sister Virginia and brother Calvin, to whom the Class extends its deepest sympathy.
