Philip Strubing Blatz ’45 *48

Bing died Jan. 14, 2008, at his country house in Wilmington, Del.  

Bing prepared for Princeton at Tower Hill School and joined Cloister Inn. During the war he served with the 94th Infantry Division, seeing combat in France. Returning to Princeton, he graduated magna cum laude with a degree in chemistry in 1948; also was awarded a Ph.D. in chemistry in 1948, working under Hubert Alyea in Frick; and then received a master’s degree in 1950.  

Bing joined DuPont Co. in Wilmington, where he distinguished himself as a polymer-research chemist. He retired in 1990.  

Bing was predeceased by his wife, Ursula. He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth; three sons, John, Philip, and Thomas; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. They remember Phil for his quick wit, insatiable scientific curiosity, and love of sports. The class expresses sympathy to the family.
