Phillip Nathaniel Ellis Greene Jr. ’42

Body

PHIL DIED Aug. 20, 1993, in Fair Haven, N.J., of a stroke during openheart surgery. He and Barbara, his wife of 51 years, had just returned from a cruise when he complained of not feeling well, leading to the complications that resulted in his untimely death.

Phil joined the class from Choate, majored in geology, and was a member of Cottage Club. Following graduation, he spent three years in the A.A.F. as a first lieutenant, serving in the European theater.

Following the war, he returned to the Shrewsbury, N.J., area, where he had spent most of his life and entered the heavy truck sales and marketing business, to which he devoted his entire career. He worked initially for the Mack Motor Truck Corp. in national sales and then became national accounts sales manager for the White Motor Co.

His great passion was retrievers. He served for more than 15 years as president of the Shrewsbury River Retrievers Club, judging and running dogs in trials. He traveled extensively in this capacity. He also was v.p. of the Rumson Board of Health.

TO his widow, Barbara; his sons, Philip Ill and Christopher; and his daughter, Sharon, the class offers its most sincere condolences.
