Pierce A. Chamberlain III ’61

Pierce died March 23, 2025.
Born into a Princeton family, he came to us from Deerfield Academy. At Princeton, he majored in art and archaeology, took his meals at Cottage Club, and was a member of the Pistol Club. He roomed with John Waterbury, Peter Nichols, Bob McClintock, and Jim de Peyster.
After Princeton, Pierce served in the Marine Corps Reserve for six years and acquired the rank of sergeant. He studied art and history at Berkeley and the University of Arizona before embarking on a career as an archivist and then as chief curator at the Arizona Historical Society in Tucson. He retired in 1994.
Married and divorced earlier, he married Karen Underhill, who survives him, along with his four children from an earlier marriage, a stepdaughter, and a number of grandchildren.
