Pierce MacNair ’37

Body

Pierce died Dec. 28, 1994. He prepared at Choate, where he was on the football and squash teams, on the crew, and a member of the Glee Club. At Princeton, he was always working at some business venture. He was junior and senior manager of the Tutoring Agency, manager of the Campus Publicity Service, advertising manager of the BRIC-A-BRAC, and a member of Cap and Gown.

After graduation, we didn't see too much of him. as he was restlessly moving around from Wall Street investment banks, to Johns Manville, to Procter and Gamble, and finally to Atlantic Richfield as wholesale marketing manager of the eastern region. In l 964, he was appointed president of Washington's leading retail heating oil and marketing company, Griffith Consumers, an affiliate of Atlantic Richfield. He streamlined its fleet service operation and expanded its oil supply network into several cities.

During the past 20 years he had also worked with his wife, Peg, who owns one of Maryland's most active antique businesses in New Market and Frederick.

Of Reunions he wrote: "It is important that each of the class should make an extra effort to get back and see first hand what's going on today as well as pick up some of the old threads of the many happy relations at Princeton."

We extend our sympathy to Pierce's wife of 56 years, Peggy; to daughters Victoria Todd, Caroline, and Endora; and to son Andrew '69.
