Purd came to Princeton from Kent, where he rowed crew and went to the Henley Regatta. At Princeton he joined Colonial and roomed with Wilmerding, Warren, and Collins. In 1951 he joined the Air Force and had assignments with intelligence in the United States and Morocco. He came back to finish his degree with honors in history in 1954. He opted to retain his membership in our class.

Purd’s career was in sales with the International Paper Co. and Garden Way. Purd commenced a vigorous association with riding when he joined the Saddle and Sirloin Club of Kansas City in 1966. He was a dedicated trail rider with that club and with the Desert Caballeros Ride in Arizona for many years.

He died Nov. 22, 2018. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Ann; and children Allen, Jennifer, and Abigale. The class sends its sympathy and respect for Purd’s service to our country and loyalty to the class.
