Rafael R. Oliveros ’86
Rafael Oliveros died Aug. 21, 1997, in West Hollywood, Calif. At the time of his death, he was less than a year away from completing his PhD at the L.A. campus of the California School of Professional Psychology.
Rafael came to Princeton from La Jolla [Calif] H.S., and majored in politics. He was a member of Cottage Club, then Campus Club, and fenced during our freshman year.
After graduation, Rafael worked at Security Pacific Bank in customer service relations. He then moved to San Diego, where he received a master's at the California School of Professional Psychology. Later, at their L.A. campus, for his doctorate, he researched contributing factors for high-risk sexual activity, primarily in the young Hispanic community. He was counseling AIDS patients and had just completed an internship with the Institute for Multicultural Counseling and Education Services. Additionally, Rafael was very active in American Latin community service organizations.
Those who knew Rafael will always remember his kindness, compassion, warmth, and loyal friendship. To his mother, Rose, his half-brother, Gerald Burmeister, and his very close friends, Charlene Chatham and Tiffany Chatham Smith, the class extends its deep sympathies.
