Body

RALPH BENNETT died of pneumonia Feb. 15, 1994. He was 93 years old. He got his Ph.D. in physics from the Univ. of Chicago and became a Princeton alumnus by doing his postdoctoral studies at Princeton. His loyalty to Princeton was most evident in the extensive effort he expended on behalf of the A.P.G.A. Ralph and the late Paul Aiken *31 were instrumental in the founding of the association, and they dedicated much time and enthusiasm to it for more than 20 years.

Born in Williamson, N.Y., he was a graduate of Union College at Schenectady, received a master's degree there in electrical engineering, and served for many years as a trustee of Union. After getting his Ph.D. from Chicago, and doing postdoctoral studies at Princeton, he also studied at Cal. Tech. His career was varied and most distinguished. He served as a professor of phys cs at M. I.T; as a naval officer, responsible for the Naval Ordnance Laboratory in Washington; and director of the Vallecitos Atomic Laboratory near Livermore, Calif., for the General Electric Co. He subsequently became V.P. and director of research for Martin Marietta. He is survived by his widow, Anna Gray, a daughter, a son, and four grandchildren. We extend our deepest sympathy to all his loved ones.
