Ralph E. Baxter ’33

Ralph Baxter died on Nov.13, 1989, in Longwood, Fla. Dan, as he was known at Exeter and Princeton, was born on Jan. 25, 1911, in Brooklyn, N.Y.

In college, Dan was on the l50-lb football team, and a member of Key and Seal. He roomed with Johnny Harman and later with Bill Powell.

After college Dan studied medicine, first at P. and S. (Columbia) and then at Boston Univ., where he received his M.D. in 1938. He interned at King's County Hospital in Brooklyn. After residencies at King's County and at Children's Memorial in Chicago, he joined the Army Air Forces, and served as a flight surgeon in the South Pacific. He was a major.

After the war, Dan began the practice of pediatrics in Miami, retiring in 1977 after 31 years. He was a life member of the Dade County Medical Assn., and of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Dan married Lois Huckins on Oct. 7, 1939, in Center Ossipee, N.H. She survives him, as do two daughters, Susan, of Hollywood, Fla., and Sally Roberts, of Miami Lakes, Fla. Also two sisters, Helen O'Rourke and Janet Baxter, of Longwood, and a brother, William, of Sarasota. The Class of '33 expresses its sympathy and sense of loss to Lois and to the rest of the family.
