Ralph Hain Mengel II ’38

Body

RALPH MENGEL, whom most of us remember as a brilliant trumpeter in the university band and orchestra, the Princeton Tigers' dance band and the Triangle Club orchestra, all of which he served as leader senior year, died Sept. 5, 1993, in his hometown for the past 21 years, Edmond, Okla.

A graduate of Reading (Penn.) H.S., he majored in philosophy at Princeton. He was at Harvard Law when he decided to join the army in May 1941. He served in eight campaigns with the 45th infantry division. He continued in the army and retired in 1967 as a It. colonel. During this time, he earned his M.B.A. at Univ. of Texas. He got his Ph.D. in 1972, and began teaching at Univ. of Central Oklahoma, retiring as associate professor after 14 years.

Ralph believed in young people and never passed up an opportunity to help causes concerning children. He was active in good works wherever he lived.

In 1951, he married Jessie Mae Bradley, who survives. Their children, Mark B. and Susan, are both doctors. Ralph was buried with full military honors.
