Ralph Stanley Longstaff ’36

RALPH LONGSTAFF, at the age of 77, died May 21, 199 1. He spent his early life in Lake Forest, 111.

He prepared for Princeton at the Hill School. At Princeton, he was a member of Campus Club. In Nov. 1935, he almost died after serious surgery on a burst appendix. Accordingly, for health reasons he had to withdraw from the University. He returned in Sept. 1936 with the Class of 1937 but withdrew in Feb. 1937 to pursue newspaper work.

In 1941, before Pearl Harbor, he entered military service in the Army Medical Corps. He rose to the rank of captain while on duty in France and Germany. He retired from active duty in 1946.

After the war, he joined the investment firm of Merrill Lynch in Chicago and lived in Evanston. He spent his entire business career with them and retired in 1974 to Bingham, Me.

Ralph's wife, Joanne "Jody," died in 1980. He is survived by daughters Mrs. Jody L. Wood and Mrs. Toni Matzen; son Stanley; and seven grandchildren.

We regret not having seen Ralph in latter years. He will be missed by his friends in the Class.
