Ray William Brown ’51

He came to Princeton from Hornell High School and Lawrenceville, majored in history, belonged to Cloister Inn, and roomed with Ed Alyea. After graduation, Ray served as a Navy officer on the Mediterranean and Baltic seas. In 1953 he and Margaret Jeanne Holden were married.  

Ray graduated from Cornell Law in 1958 and began his legal career in New York with Chadbourne & Parke. In 1964 he moved to Buffalo to work with the firm Saperston & Day. By 1967 he was in Pittsburgh, where he was briefly with Blaw-Knox and then became assistant general counsel for Westinghouse Electric. By 1975 he had joined Mobay Chemical as general counsel and secretary, becoming vice president in 1978. Following his retirement in 1990, he worked for two years as special counsel to Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott.

Ray was a director of the American Red Cross, the Wesley Institute, and Music for Mount Lebanon. He also was an elder and trustee at Southminster Presbyterian Church.  

Ray died May 7, 2008. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne; their son, Robert; their daughter, Margaret Wucher; three grandchildren; and his sister, Virginia Smith.
