Raymond M. Fox Jr. ’60

Body

Ray died April 3, 2011, at his home in Jacksonville, N.C., as he had wished — with his wife, Bonnie, and son Paul holding his hands. For several years, Ray had been in very poor health dealing with serious diabetes and finally lung cancer. He was 73.

“Foxy” came to Princeton from Harvey High School in Painesville, Ohio, and soon became known as a serious premed student who majored in biology and spent many long hours in the lab. A member of Cannon Club, Ray was always good company, constantly cheerful, positive in his thinking, and full of good humor with an explosive laugh.

After Princeton, Ray earned his medical degree at Vanderbilt University; served in the Air Force, from which he received the Commendation Medal; and eventually settled in Jacksonville, N.C.

He helped open the Detox Unit at Onslow County (N.C.) Mental Health and was a proud member of the Infant of Prague Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the Rotary Club. He was a very respected and caring doctor in Onslow County.

His second wife of long standing, Bonnie; sons Paul, Jim, and Patrick; stepdaughter Angie; stepson Carlton; and 10 grandchildren survive Ray. The class offers sincere sympathy to Bonnie and the family.
