Reese H. Harris Jr. ’33

REESE HARRIS, whose singalong piano playing enlivened so many class gatherings, died on July 10, 1991, in Blasdell, N.Y., while on a trip. He had lived in Essex, Conn., for the past twenty years. A memorial service was held July 15 at the First Congregational Church. Bill Crow and Ed Delaney represented the class.

Reese was born April 28, 1911, in La Plume, Penn., near Scranton, He prepared at Exeter. In college he was a member of the Band, of Charter Club, and of Phi Beta Kappa. He roomed with Bob Gordon,

After college Reese went to Harvard Law, where he was an editor of the LAW REVIEW. He practiced law in Hartford for some years, with two years out while in WWII in the Navy, including service as judge advocate general on Guam. In 1960 he began a career as a banker, at first in Hartford and then with Manufacturers Hanover in N.Y.C., living in Greenwich, and retiring in 1971 as executive V.P. He was a director of several companies, active in civic and alumni affairs, and had recently been regional chairman for '33.

On June 16, 1934, Reese married Dorothy (Dody) Ripple, in Scranton. She survives, as do their sons Reese 111, and Ezra R. There are seven grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren. Reese's sister, Isabelle Acker, also survives. The Class of '33 has suffered a severe loss. We extend our deep sympathy to all the family.
