Richard E. Rhea ’33

Body

DICK RHEA, who had only recently told us of the death of his wife of 55 years, died Nov. 26, 1992. He lived in Indian Wells, Calif, where he had been for some years.

Dick was born Apr. 21, 1910. He lived in Pittsburgh and prepared at Hill School. He had to leave college early because of ill health. When his health improved, he went to work for the Ohio Oil Co., which later became Marathon Oil. He lived in Findlay, Ohio, where he was heavily involved in community activities.

On Sept. 26, 1937, Dick married Jessie Billstone. They had four children, Thomas, Cynthia Dobbins, Susan Carney, and Rebecca Griffin. There are six grandchildren. Dick had many relatives among Princeton alumni. His brother, the late Edwin Rhea, was in the Class of'27. His niece married Duncan Van Dusen '58, and there are numerous Van Dusens and Rheas in classes from '61 to '94.

Dick's daughter Susan says: "Dad always talked fondly of his days at Princeton." To her and to her brother and sisters, the Class of '33 extends its deep sympathy, and regrets that we did not see more of their father.
