Richard John Cowan ’42

Body

DICK WAS killed in a one-car accident on Dec. 6, 1989, seven miles east of his ranch near Riley, Oreg. At the time of his death Dick was actively pursuing his career as a rancher. Dick was on the National Beef Board, which required attendance at various meetings around the na¬tion. He was also council commissioner, and his participa¬tion on the County Court and the National Beef Board were activities that gave him great pleasure.

Dick came to Princeton from New Trier High School, majored in economics and graduated with high honors. Following graduation he served in the Army Air Force.

In 1950 he moved to Harney County, Oregon, where he bought his cattle ranch, making his residence there since that time. He served in national, state and county cattle organizations and a wide range of other civic and community activities, including the Union High School Board, the Suntex School Board and the Harney County Hospital Board. He and his wife, Helen, enjoyed travel¬ing and especially piloting his own plane.

Dick was a dedicated Princetonian, attending more and more '42 activities in recent years. He led a full life, was admired by all who knew him. His death was a shock to everyone. His wife Helen's said, "He was a devoted and beloved husband, father, friend and citizen."

To his widow, Helen; sons, Cran and Cliff; brother, Kenneth; sister, Mimi Wien; and granddaughter, An¬drea; the Class extends its most sincere sympathies.
