Dick died May 28, 2004, in suburban Pittsburgh, one year after being diagnosed with lung cancer.

Dick came to Princeton from the Gilman School. He majored in aeronautical engineering and roomed with Bob Sturla and Marv Diamond senior year, and previously with Al Muller. He dined at Court Club.

After graduation, Dick worked for IBM in Washington, D.C., until joining the Navy as an ensign. While serving under Adm. Hyman Rickover he taught at the Nuclear Power School in Bainbridge, Md., training submarine officers. He left the Navy after four years as a lieutenant.

In 1967, he married Susan von Eiff of Baltimore. Dick attended graduate school at the University of Delaware, teaching undergrads and earning a master’s degree in electrical engineering. He was nearing completion of a Ph.D. when the corporate world beckoned.

Dick held various engineering positions during his career, moving to seven different states. He was an active member of his community wherever he lived, especially in New Hampshire, where his Rye home was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. He and Sue traveled through New England to furnish their period home.

The class extends its condolences to Sue and their son, Michael.
