Richard M. Cooley ’34

Body

DICK COOLEY, who owned and operated a cold-storage warehouse in Salisbury on the eastern shore of Maryland, died July 25, 1994, after a long illness. Besides his warehouse business, which he turned over to his son Arthur when he retired, Dick was chairman for many years of the Somerset County Sanitary District and a director and executive committee member of Peninsula Bank. As chairman of the sanitary commission, he was responsible for several million dollars' worth of water and sewer lines and treatment-plant facilities throughout the counry. In WWII, Dick served as a first lt. in air combat intelligence and participated in the last half of the battle for Okinawa.

"Meanwhile," he wrote in our 50th yearbook, "the really important part of my life had been meeting and marrying Margaret 'Jamie' Jamieson in 1940." Jamie Cooley (Hollins '38) survives, as do four sons, Richard, Robert, Arthur, and Andrew '75; a daughter, Katherine Maher; and nine grandchildren. To them, we offer our sympathies.
