Richard T. Burns ’49

Body

DR. DICK BURNS, a retired dentist and one of our bestknown, bestliked classmates, died July 7, 1993, in Plymouth, N.H. He had for many years suffered from multiple sclerosis.

Dick graduated from Morristown H.S. At Princeton, he majored in biology, played varsity football, and was a member of Cottage. He left Princeton in 1947 and entered the Univ. of Pennsylvania's dental school, graduating with honors in 1951. In June 1949, Dick wed Shirley Ann Peer, and they had three children.

Following his dental internship, Dick served in the navy as a dentist. In 1955, he established a practice in Morristown, where he lived and worked for 18 years before moving his clan to Center Sandwich, N.H., in 1973. He practiced there until M.S. forced him to retire in 1982.

Dick was a life member of the American Dental Assn. and the New Hampshire Dental Society, the Federated Church of Sandwich, Red Mountain Lodge, and Sandwich Men's Club, and had volunteered on the Sandwich Fire Dept.

Dick is survived by his wife of 44 years; sons Richard and David; daughter Dana; mother, Mary Johnson Burns; brother, Arthur C. '45; and several nieces and nephews. To all of them, we extend our profound sympathy.
