Richard W. Kixmiller ’42
KIX PASSED AWAY quietly in a Summit, N.J., hospital Jan. 8, 1994. He had been ill for some time. He retired from Celanese Corp., where he spent his entire career, in 1986, as executive V.P. in charge of worldwide expansion.
Kix came to Princeton from New Trier H.S., in Winnetka, Ill., where he was one of the top three students and participated in many outside activities. At Princeton, he quickly rose to the top of the academic ladder and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa in junior year. He majored in chemistry and, for his senior thesis, produced an outstanding paper on synthetic rubber. This led to an important assignment with the navy department after graduation.
Kix was music critic and editorialist for THE DAILY PRINCFTONIAN, was on the sailing team, performed in Triangle Club shows, and was a member of Quadrangle Club. Following graduation, he was very active in '42 affairs and served as class president for five years. He sang, played the guitar, and was chairman emeritus of the New Jersey Symphony. He was also a trustee of Drew College in Madison, N.J., and served on several boards of directors.
Kix is survived by his loving wife, JoAnn; three sons, Richard, John, and Dan; two grandchildren, Lea and Geoffrey; and by his sister, jean. To each we extend our special condolences. We will miss one of our brightest and best.
