BOB DIED of cancer Apr. 6, 1992, at his home in N.Y.C. He was born June 18, 1928, in Elizabeth, N.J., was a graduate of the Lawrenceville School, and entered Princeton with the Class of'49. Because of an illness in his family, he left Princeton for two years, returning to graduate in 1951. He majored in American literature and went on to graduate studies at N.Y.U. While in graduate school he worked at Chemical Bank as a member of its executive training program.

In 1956 Bob began his 35year teaching career at the Horace Mann School in N.Y.C. He was a teacher of English, chairman of the English department, director of the summer school, director of the John Dorr Nature Laboratory, assistant to the president, and dean of faculty. By all who knew him, Bob was regarded as a true Renaissance Man. He was widely read, a brilliant teacher and scholar, an athlete, an outdoorsman, and a sensitive and caring friend.

Bob was active in professional organizations, seving as president of the Assn, of Teachers in Independent Schools in New York City and Vicinity, and as a member of the Coordinating Committee of the National Assn. of Independent Schools. His community activities included membership on the boards of directors of the Morningside Area Alliance, and of the Morningside Heights Housing Corp.

Bob is survived by his wife of 38 years, Jean; two sons, Grant '81 and Frederick; a sister, Mrs. William J. Lyons; and three grandchildren. Our hearts go out to all of them at the loss of this very fine man.
