Robert Babers Stell ’52
AFTER A FIFTEENYEAR STRUGGLE with cancer, Bob Stell died Aug. 17, 1990, in the hospital where he had served for 30 years in San Angelo, Tex. His funeral was in the First United Methodist Church, San Angelo.
Among our memories of Bob, perhaps none is clearer than his welcoming smile at Commons, where he worked for three years, and made every meal more attractive by his presence. A hallmark of Bob's life was grace under affliction: he discussed his cancer at our 35th reunion, and promptly left, with Sarah, for the south of France. Following his favorite motto, "seize the day," he attended his son John's graduation from Princeton in 1990, and continued his urologic practice until a month before his death. His warmth and his perseverance illuminated all those around him.
At Princeton, Bob majored in biology, belonged to Quadrangle Club, roomed with Ray Baldwin, and worked at numerous jobs. After Harvard Medical
School, he did a year's surgical internship at Barnes Hospital, St. Louis, and a urology residency at Baylor Medical School, He and Sarah were married in June1959.
To Sarah and their children Mary, Andrew, and John '90, we extend our deepest sympathies..
