Robert Beakes Rowley ’41

Body

BOB ROWLEY DIED suddenly of a massive heart attack on April 17, 1991 in Fort Pierce, Fla. The son of James B. Rowley '13, he came to Princeton from Middletown, (N.Y.) High School, majored in classics, and served in the Air Corps in WWII.

Bob's life was characterized by his love and help for his fellow man. A greatly revered community leader in Middletown, he served as board chairman of the Horton Memorial Hospital, where the Rowley Family Birthing Center was recently established, Other community activities included the executive board of the Boy Scouts, past president of the Kiwanis Club, board member of the Orange County Community College, and Trustee of the Orange County Home for the Aged. He was a longtime member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Middletown. Bob owned the Rowley Lumber Co. in Middletown, and he was an innovator in that industry. A wily freshwater fisherman, he and his wife, Joan, maintained a home on nearby Lake Wanaksink. The Florida move was recent.

Those who knew Bob at Princeton will remember his warmth, humor, and goodwill. We extend our deepest sympathy to Joan, his son Richard, daughters Kathi and Robin, sister Barbara, and eight grandchildren.
