Robert Blaine Payne ’45

He prepared for Princeton at Tyler (Texas) High School and joined Tower Club, of which he became president. His Princeton career was interrupted by service with the 101st Airborne, and he saw combat in France and Germany as a field artillery liaison pilot.  

He received his bachelor’s degree in 1947 from what is now the Woodrow Wilson School, then entered the University of Texas Law School, from which he graduated in 1949. Bob formed a law firm in Dallas and married Virginia Webb.  

In addition to his law practice, Bob enjoyed hunting and golfing and taught Sunday school. His most interesting client was the Dallas Cowboys pro football team.  

He noted in our 40th directory that he was happy to be able to accommodate his three children and eight grandchildren with a lake house in east Texas and a mountain home in Colorado. In addition to Ginnie, Bob is survived by sons Robert B. Jr. ’74 and Marshall; daughter Susan Madole ’76; and the grandchildren. The class sends its sympathy to the family.
