Robert Dorfman ’49
Bob died Feb. 12, 2017, in Binghamton, N.Y., at the Good Shepherd Fairview Home. He and wife Ruth moved there after living for many years in the Bayside neighborhood of Queens, N.Y.
Bob entered Princeton after a brief tour in the Army. While on campus, he roomed with Vic Parsonnet. He majored in chemistry and belonged to Court Club. Unfortunately, his father’s untimely death forced Bob to leave Princeton early to take over the family business, E. Dorfman & Co., a manufacturer of braided trimming for the garment industry. He was president of the company for many years and retired in 1994.
Although Bob had multiple heart surgeries from the age of 50, he never lost his positive outlook; Ruth tells us that they called him “the bionic man” for his metal and plastic replacements. Despite serious health issues, he also served Temple Beth Shalom in Flushing as chairman of its religious school.
Bob married Ruth Goldberg Oct. 15, 1950. After 66 happy years of marriage, Ruth has many memories of their time together; they attended Reunions and many football games. She and their children, Eliot and Nancy, survive, and we express our deepest sympathy to them.
