Robert E. Holmes ’48

Body

WITH THE DEATH of Bob Holmes on Nov. 19, 1994, the class has lost a genial friend, a fine citizen, and a devoted Princetonian. Born in Cleveland, he was brought up in Jenkintown, Pa., where he attended high school, and served as senior class president. Bob came to Princeton in the V-12, played football, and was in Tiger Inn. He graduated in 1947 with a B.S.E. in basic engineering. Bob cherished his Princeton friends and was a regular at Reunions, keeping us smartened up in the P-rade with gentle but firm commands.

Bob spent his entire professional career at G.E. in various sales and marketing assignments. He coordinated the sale and construction of the enormous quartz mirror for the Kitt Peak Natl. Observatory in Tucson. He retired in 1983.

Bob was active in the Episcopal Church of Kennett Square, Pa., and a variety of civic organizations, as well as being an avid golfer.

To his widow, Joyce; daughters Suzanne, Meredith, Susan, and Ann; and son Robert, the class extends its deepest sympathy and shares in their loss.
