Robert E. Putney Jr. ’55
BOB DIED Nov. 12, 1994, at his home in Jenkintown, Penn., after a long struggle with cancer. He prepared at Andover. At Princeton, he majored in economics, was a member of Key and Seal, and was on the freshman fencing squad. He was also on the staff of WPRU and the TIGER, and was in the Republican Club.
After Air Force service, he assumed leadership of the family-owned business, The Philadelphia Felt Co. He was president of the Intl. Rushlight Club, a group of antique lighting-device collectors, at the time of his death, and also served as a trustee of the Frankford Hospital Foundation and as a director and officer of Frankford Health Care Systems-the third generation of his family to serve Frankford Hospital. He was also a director and officer of the Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania.
In addition to serving on several local committees, Bob belonged to the Noble Improvement Assn. and the Frankford Exchange Club, and served as president and chairman of the Northeast Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Union League of Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Cricket Club, Abington Presbyterian Church, and was an associate member of the Orpheus Club. Bob had served as Abington township commissioner.
Bob is survived by his widow, Anne; by his children from a previous marriage, Robert E. III and Christine Putney Mason; by his sister, Trudy Foshay; by his brother, Paul William; and by six nieces and nephews.
