Robert Gill Walker ’41

A graduate of the Taft School, he majored in history at Princeton, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He participated in C.A.A. war training service, danced in the Triangle shows, and joined Cottage Club.

Bob earned an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School in 1943. Entering the Navy, he served as ordnance officer on the light carrier U.S.S. Langley, which was involved in all the fast-carrier operations from the Marshall Islands to Okinawa. Separating as a lieutenant, he went to Yale Law School and graduated in 1948.

Bob practiced law for a few years with Reed, Smith, Shaw & McLay in Pittsburgh before joining the State Department. In 1957, Bob joined the Foreign Service and had successive posts in Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, and Santiago as financial reporting officer until 1966, when he returned to Washington. He retired in 1970.

The Walkers lived in Chevy Chase, Md., before moving to Princeton and then to Meadow Lakes.

Bob is survived by his wife, Barbara Martin Walker, whom he married in 1948; his daughters, Polly Owen and Jennet Auerbacher; his sons, Mead, Tertius, Martin, and Nicholas; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
