Robert Maurice Lichenstein ’48

Body

BOB LiCHENSTEIN died Sept, 7, 1991. He was 64.

Bob came to Princeton in July 1944 by way of New York Military Academy and with experience as an undersized, ferocious, teenage golden gloves boxer. Between freshman and sophomore years he spent two years in the Army in Germany as an interpreter with the transportation service. At college he played rugby, football, and lacrosse and was in Cannon.

After college Bob went into the Paint Market Stores, a family business serving New York and New Jersey, and soon became president of the chain, At the same time, his love of sports and competition propelled him into combat with the New York Rugby Club; and his nose was broken thrice.

In 1970 he sold the stores and became involved in real estate investment, eventually moving to Houston. At the time of his death, he was president of his own company which was primarily an investment firm.

Bob is survived by his widow, Rachel (daughter of former Governor of Alabama James Folson); brother Howard; sons Bob Jr., and Charles; daughter Melissa; and her twin sons, Andrew and Philip Knop. To all of his family the Class extends its deepest sympathy and, somehow, shares in their loss.
