Robert McDougal Jr. ’26

Body

BOB McDOUGAL, wellknown Chicago lawyer, excellent golfer, and supporter of childcare and minority causes, died of heart failure May 23, 1993.

At Princeton, Bob was on the university golf team and president of Tower Club. He later studied law at the Univ. of Chicago and joined the firm of Winston, Strawn & Shaw, of which he became a partner. He retired in 1969.

It was Bob's nature to participate in causes in which he had deep convictions. He became interested in the plight of children and for more than 50 years gave guidance to Chicago Child Care Society, of which he was president from 194862. He was also on the board of the Child Welfare League of America. He became interested in interracial concerns even before the civil rights movement in the 1960s and was active with the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and served on its national board.

Bob also played golf exceedingly well. He won championships at Chicago golf clubs and at Gull Lake, Mich., where the McDougals summered.

Bob married Helen Curtenius in Sept. 1929. He is survived by Helen and their two children, Nancy Fry and Robert C., M.D.; by Bob's brother, C. Bouton '29; and by six grandchildren. To all of them, we extend our deep sympathy on the death of an outstanding person and a highly respected classmate.
