Robert Newton Gilmore Jr. ’34

Body

BOB GILMORE, senior V.P. for legal affairs and general counsel for the American Insurance Assn., died of cancer Nov. 27, 1992, the day after Thanksgiving. Last summer he and his wife, Ann (Coffey), celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their four children in Vermont.

Bob retired from the American Insurance Assn. in 1978 and then served as project director of the American Bar Assn., Commission on Medical Professional Liability. During WWII, he spent more than three years in the Coast Guard.

In the area on Long Island's south shore, where he lived, he was active for several years as regional chairman for Annual Giving. He was a member of the Princeton Club of N.Y., commodore of the Babylon (L.I.) Yacht Club, and a director of the Suffolk County chapter of the Red Cross.

Surviving, besides Ann, are his daughter, Phoebe Tanner; three sons, Robert N. III, J. Blake, and David S.; and four grandchildren. To them we offer our sincere sympathies.
